Inspiration: Socks plus Sandals

To combine socks & sandals used to be a real fashion taboo. Here in Italy we called it “German tourists style” (and of course it was not a compliment). Some of them used to walk around our cities wearing Birkenstocks and short white socks, no matter in which season we were. And that in a time when Birkenstocks were totally out. Poor Germans, it became a real fashion cliché in Italy. By the way I love fashion stereotypes, they’re so funny. In Italy we have a lot. Many people here think that there are style rules you absolutely can’t break to be fashionable. But in my opinion those rules could be good maybe ahem ….in the Sixties. To make an example: there are still people that believe that your bag must be the same colour of your shoes. But maybe I will write better about this another time. To return to our socks: looking at these outfits and if you wear high heels sandals instead of Birkenstocks I think I can say we broke the taboo. Ok, you may not like it but that is called personal taste. And I’m glad it (still) exists.

Abbinare sandali & calzini è sempre stato un tabù qui in Italia. Guai a chi tentasse l’abbinamento, poteva essere apostrofato con l’appellativo di “turista tedesco” (e non si tratta ovviamente di un complimeto). I poveri turisti tedeschi per anni li abbiamo sbeffeggiati perché giravano per le nostre città con indosso Birkenstock e calzini corti bianchi, spesso di spugna. In qualsiasi stagione. E questo in tempi in cui le Birkenstock erano assolutamente out. Quello dei calzini coi sandali è diventato un vero stereotipo. Tra l’altro amo questi “stereotipi modaioli”, li trovo proprio divertenti e in Italia ne abbiamo a bizzeffe. Ci sono ancora così tante persone che pensano esistano alcune regole assolutamente inviolabili per essere “vestiti bene”. Peccato che molte di queste regole per me forse potevano andare bene negli anni Sessanta… Giusto per fare un esempio: c’è ancora qualcuno che ritiene che la borsa debba avere per forza lo stesso colore delle scarpe. Ma magari affronterò meglio l’argomento un’altra volta. Ritornando ai nostri calzini, direi che guardando questi outfit e indossando sandali col tacco al posto delle Birken direi che forse possiamo sdoganare il tabù. Certo potrebbe non piacervi ma questo si chiama gusto personale. Per fortuna esiste (ancora).

  5. hehehe in Portugal we use to say the same about the socks and sandals, only the turist use that!! But I really like this new style sock and sandals in the fashion way! I use to put it too!

  7. Anche oggi non mi deludi! proprio in questo periodo sono alla ricerca di ispirazioni per provare un outfit con sandalo e calzino…e qui ce ne sono a bizzeffe di idee! Grazieeeee! Ps: Hai visto sul mio blog che ho acquistato finalmente una reflex? :)
    E' partito tutto con il blog, con il guardare le foto delle altre bloggers e pensare "aaah che belle foto", poi un giorno ho chiesto al moroso di uscire un pomeriggio con quella di sua sorella per farmi qualche scatto…ma nel momento in cui l'ho presa in mano io e ho iniziato a scattare ho sentito qualcosa di inspiegabile, come se si fosse risvegliata in me una parte che non conoscevo…ed ora eccomi qui, con una reflex in mano e alla ricerca di un buon corso di fotografia compatibile con i miei orari (purtroppo tra poco inizierò a lavorare tutti i pomeriggi e tutte le sere fino a settembre sigh!).   11. Haha, è chiaro che l'appellativo "turista tedesco" è mooolto legato all'abbinamento sandali + calze (anche in Francia pensiamo subito ai turisti tedeschi)!
    Però che bello, che bello! Non ho ancora osato (anche perché dovrei avere i sandali giusti che non ho ancora), ma mi piace molto!

  14. io adoro i cazini con i sandali. ovvio che dipende da che calzini e da che sandali… concordo in pieno co te, in Italia ci sono tabù assurdi. Quello della borsa è davvero una idiozia! a me in certi casi da addirittura fastidio "troppa coordinazione"

  20. Haha your commentary on this issue is really funny! I was a little skeptical about socks and sandals but I have grown to love it! Personally I still prefer tights with sandals, but now that spring is here it makes sense to bare your legs and wear your sandals with socks instead! It's all about finding the right look for you.
