blueWEEKLY #10

blueWEEKLY-10Read, watched, loved this week.

1 | MUSTANG 2015: Best movie I’ve watched this week that has become one of my favourite movies. Great photography. A Turkish movie that got an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Movie this year. The protagonists are five orphaned sisters—Sonay, Selma, Ece, Nur, and Lale—who’s teenage life suddenly changes being raised by a retrograde, indoctrinated grandmother and a misogynistic, predatory uncle in a small Turkish village by the Black Sea. They will fight for their identity, each one in her own way.

5 | The Blackest Black in the World [via dezeen]: “Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor has acquired exclusive rights to the revolutionary Vantablack pigment, said to be the blackest shade of black ever created.  Kapoor is currently the only person in the world who can paint using this colour, and has been doing so since 2014. Developed by British company NanoSystems, Vantablack is composed of a series of microscopic vertical tubes. When light strikes Vantablack, it becomes trapped instead of bouncing off and is continually deflected between the tubes. The pigment is currently the blackest substance known – so dark that it absorbs 99.96 per cent of light.”
