Don’t try this at home

Fashion editorials are great. I was browsing some of them on fashioneditorials (where I got the photos for this post) and while admiring outstanding photography and human beauty I was thinking: “Oh yes, I can’t wait to go out dressed like that!”. Editorials are great, often not so great for inspiring everyday outfits. And that’s why fashion blogs came, ages ago. Now most of them don’t deal with real life either.

Anyway, here are some editorial photos I like but featuring looks that I don’t recommend you to WEAR.

1 | A white blazer, “serial killer aviators” (how a friend of mine calls them), white undies and you’re ready for a fun car ride!

Btw the sandals are this season’s obsession. From Mansur Gavriel’s and Mariam Nassir Zadeh’s ones to every fast fashion copycat.

2 | Blue eyeshadow is already sooooo easy-to-wear without calling out “Eighties! Eighties!”, let’s apply it definitely this way.

3 | The trousers look good on the photo. What’s when you go out wearing them? Circus inspiration? And with just a denim jacket on, what a cool, wearable idea!

But the make up is cool.

4 | Show your nipples 1.

Yes, I want it that way. Who needs a bra?

5 | Show your nipples 2.

We are all looking for the perfect white swimsuit that, when wet, looks like this.

6 | A fringe coat, a cotton jumpsuit and a lurex and wool top. To wear for which season?

No idea, magazines don’t live with temperatures.

7 | And talking about weather, that’s another big classic for Winter Fashion Weeks:

show your tummy on the snow.

8 | I don’t like brows looking too fake but there’s a limit even for natural ones.

Well, not even on them.

SOOOO INSPIRATIONAL GUYS!

  1. I always ask myself that question when I think about what to post as outfits on my blog, i.e. ‘Is this wearable? Does this fit into everyday life’? Often I find myself neglecting the latter. However, I post what I post because it reflects my personality and what I want to express, even if others wouldn’t dare to wear what I do. Often I was ridiculed during my university years and even now for my outfit decisions and being myself always lead me to a lonely place.
Perhaps what I wear sometimes is not wearable for the majority, but at least I am being (or trying to) be authentic.
There’s the other question about bloggers inspiring others and stimulating the ability to dream. I don’t think bloggers should limit themselves to ‘wearable’ everyday outfits. I don’t think this should be exclusive for magazines. Then we’d only had outfits with basics and uniforms all over blogs and that would be quite monotonous in my opinion. Sure, you can make an outfit composed of basics stand out and be unique, but that’s not my point. I think excentricity, dreaming, and yes, even the unwearable have their place in fashion blogs, not only in magazines. While I wouldn’t show my undies with a coat on top on a pic (I know a blogger who does this) and the outrageous stuff you find in editorials, I think the key is to balance what you dream of wearing (the outrageous included) and what you would step out of the door with without people looking at you like if you were an alien (this is the story of my life, even at my most ‘normal’).
BTW, I do love this post and it made me chuckle! I so love that this is a place for stimulating your thoughts on fashion and other things. x

    • This was meant just as a funny post but I agree with what you are writing! Wearable dosesn’t have to mean basic or common. The point is that 80% of outfit bloggers at this point only wear what they are paid to wear and this hasn’t anything to do with “excentricity”. I love excencitrity, I love personal choices, but just a few bloggers – and you are one of them – still care for that.

  2. Couldn’t agree more with your post. What’s with the overly long, long sleeves these days… oh dear…don’t get me started. I love clothes, and love fashion editorials mostly for the beautiful clothes and the creativity, but I think blogs serve another purpose. One reader called my blog “applied fashion” because I peruse the mags and try to interpret trends for someone my age. And I can’t bring myself to post something on my blog that I wouldn’t actually wear.

  4. Io mi trovo d’accordo con te. Le foto però sono belle. E tu hai un’ironia pungente. Mi sono fatta un sacco di risate. Ciao mia consigliera in fashion.

  5. hahaha bellissimo! concordo su quei damn cowboy boots, tutte le estati li usano in 1000 editoriali ma nella vita vera chi li indossa ( a parte Gilda) con successo?
