blueWEEKLY #6

blueWEEKLY-06

Here are my favourite articles and web-inspiration of this week.

1 | The Art of Collage: whether digitally manipulated or cut by hand, collage transcends the boundaries between artistic disciplines. Gestalten just realeased “The Age of Collage Vol. 2” that showcases a comprehensive collection of examples ranging from subversive illustrations to museum-worthy artworks. Buy the book here.

2 | Iittala x Issey Miyake: a collaboration between two masters of timeless design from two sides of the world, Finland and Japan. One vision of a home with harmony. Iittala X Issey Miyake is a unique collection of high quality ceramics, glass and home textiles. WANT! You can buy the collection on different shops for example here.

3 | Yasmine Eslami: a new lingerie line designed by Yasmine Eslami. It is a debut capsule collection composed of precised and sexy styles, all made to fit. The colors are going to the essentials: black, white and off white, the materials are tiny flowery tulle, lace, cotton voile and cotton jersey with the use of embroideries. Yasmine Eslami studied fashion at studio Berçot and worked as a designer for Vivienne Westwood. She is based in Paris and works as a stylist for different publications such as Purple, GQ, The Observer, Tank.

4 | Floral Design by Marisa Competello (via The Line): “After a decade working in the fashion industry, Marisa Competello sought a fresh beginning. Rather than agonizing over her new path, she made a straightforward decision and gave in to a natural attraction. “As my new medium,” she recounts, “I chose flowers.” Specifically, she began to pursue the art of flower arranging, known formally as the traditional Japanese practice of ikebana.” Gorgeous editorial.

5 | Anthony Burrill: graphic artist and designer Anthony Burrill tells about his numerous Etsy “WORK HARD & BE NICE TO PEOPLE” poster rip-offs: “The weird thing is I’ve never joined Etsy, I’ve never sold any of my prints there. Yet there’s lots of my work to be seen there. In fact there are currently almost 100 versions of my print Work Hard & be Nice to People” on the site, unfortunately none of them are by me. The quality varies amongst the versions I’ve “inspired”, some stick to the same type layout I used, substituting the beautiful letterpress type of the original for a default font straight out of a Word document template. Others take a more calligraphic approach and a freestyle treatment of the layout”. That’s what happens on the web. Copycats.
