Fashion Week Looks you can actually Wear

thecutmfw-street-style-12-nocrop-w1800-h1330-2x

As for every season I am going through dozens of sites showing the last Fashion Weeks street style snaps. I still think street style is fun because it shows a mirror of what “fashion” is right now, or rather a “certain part of fashion”. Although I think we are back to our starting point: ten years ago I looked at magazine’s editorials and I thought “yes, totally nice but what am I doing to do with these looks?”. Personal fashion blogs and street style came to help, sharing “real life” tips. And here we are now, again with street style that looks just “fashion week”. Why do I need a designer’s total look on street style when I already have ads, lookbooks and catwalks? And where I am supposed to wear trousers and dresses long as a veil and sweeping the sidewalk? Or a shirt with sleeves so big I can’t even think to properly eat in them?

That’s why I’m quite neutral towards Vogue’s article criticizing fashion bloggers for wearing paid or sponsored outfits. An article that every fashion blogger feels the urge to comment (including me it seems) so that she can assure readers for her credibility. To me, however, Vogue (and fashion magazines in general) and outfit bloggers are two sides of the same coin.I’m not really concerned about clothes being paid or advertised on magazines or fashion blogs. We live in a consumer world and yes, hey, there are people making money with fashion, nothing new, we already should know it by now. Yes, it would be totally nice if bloggers could add a little more value to that, if they were interested in communicating a bit more than just a sponsored look. A few of them do, while the majority is focused on making money and to be adored by people. Probably the same people that buy Vogue. However, again, I’m fine with sponsored content as long as it is somehow useful for me (and the sense of being useful here is meant as inspirational, look photography does not add anything to collective wellness). But in most of those street style look I can’t even find some inspiration any more.

That’s why I tried to research and select those (few) images and those (few) people photographed that offered more real life ideas. Looks and styling that suit women that walk more than 10 minutes a day, don’t have a driver, go to work every day. Are not 22 anymore. And DO NOT LIKE WEARING JUST BIG BOLD PRINTS.

You can’t go wrong: denim, loafers and oversized knit. All blue. Two bags is optional.

If you have a suit you must try it with sneakers. Even better with old school Vans.

White shirt, denim and bandana.

Mom’s suede vintage trench? Let’s take it out for a walk.

That’s how to wear grandma’s midi skirt. In Japan they are all dressed like this. Minus the Céline shoes.

Even if you don’t own those beautiful trousers you can have the palette.

Basic. But not too much.

Everyone should have a blush pinky top.

The Military jacket, we can do it. I’m searching for a green one.

All photos (except the first one via TheCut) are via Vogue.es that I personally send a big thank you for having published more ladys than just the usual same ones.

  3. brava, commento intelligente e carrellata di look riusciti, anche se non particolarmente innovativi, ma chi ha detto che debbano esserlo per forza? l’idea, per le comuni mortali, non è quella di centrare un look donante?

    • esatto. Io preferisco ormai il classico di qualità all’eccentrico immettibile.

  4. I agree totally with you post. Magazines are paid to publish designer only with prices that the common person cannot afford. We want inspiration not to look like everyone else. Love the street style photos very inspirational.

  5. These looks you selected are not only super wearable, but they are the proof that an eye-catching look doesn’t need to look like if you are a rainbow and crazy/desperate for attention(particularly photographers’).

I hear you regarding the article, and being a fashion blogger as well, I totally understand what you are saying as I feel the same exact way. I am neutral about the article, because I feel that some things just need to be pointed out.Especially during the past year, authenthicity has become less and less important and visible in the blogosphere than how it was at the beginning, since now it’s more about accumulating followers and earning money. There has been a rise of a new group of ‘influencers’ who are all about that and I believe that they are sadly not authentic and probably don’t even love fashion half as much as many smaller bloggers do, but are more focused on becoming famous insta celebrities. While the articles could have addressed this issue in a much better way and not attack all bloggers (not all of us are created equal), I do think there is a lot of truth to it.

Always love to read your insight and again, I adore the looks and I’m definitely taking notes on the inspo. x

    • Thank you for ahring your pint of view Laura. I agree that the problem is focused on Insta-celeberity-bloggers that often confuse “fashion” with “shopping”…

  7. Yes!! Thank you. The over-the-top fashion week street style looks are fun, but I too get tired of the lack of real-world inspiration. This is the first post I’ve seen this season with a number of looks I could actually wear. ♥

  8. la semplicità e la delicatezza del bicolore è sempre azzeccata e direi facile da trovare.Modelli non sono proprio per tutte o almeno sembrano ma uan volta indossati .
    Belle immagini

  9. I’m totally with you on this! Maybe that’s why I really like your blog and have been following you for years all because we have common thoughts and taste??! The double denim look is my favorite and really inspirational. It’s just getting harder to see something normal and more wearable outfits during fashion weeks.

    Shirley
    • exactly, it’s not really about “street style” anymore.
