As I wrote before John Varvatos AW 2011-12 totally reflects my taste. (Or my taste for a man?). It focuses around the “traveler” theme. “A man with a deeply felt hunger to experience and explore; a wanderer whose quest for knowledge brings him on a train ride from the metropolis to the small villages, and back”. On the catwalk there were train tracks and a huge clock to symbolize departures and arrivals.This collection is all about “layering”. John Varvatos’ man wears his suede biker jacket under a woolen coat, or a coat-vest over the slouchy cardigan, securing it all with a sturdy belt at the waist. (And I think this gives some nice-to-copy ideas also for the ladies). Let’s take a look at Varvatos’ look recipe in detail: Coats: ¾ length coats, double-breasted and single-breasted with a peak lapel, lean cut, without extra fillings that makes them totally weightless. Raw hemmed Edwardian style, wiyh a layered effect on jackets and coats, dip-dyed sleeveless coats that are worn as vest + Shirts that are meant to be worn outside of trousers as both a top or an under-layer, elongated and raw-hemmed shirts with wing collars and textured patters creating an intense visual contrast. + Knitwear: chunky long cardigan-jackets, hand-knit alpaca and wool sweaters, gauzy Fairisle crewnecks, bonded and raw hemmed knit jackets + Leather: Body-hugging washed suede bikers, brushed shearling coats, felt-lined suede coats. = “sophisticated and rustic” look.

John Varvatos Come vi avevo anticipato la collezione AI 2011-12 di John Varvatos rispecchia totalmente il mio gusto. (O forse il mio gusto applicato a un uomo?). E’ ispirata al “viaggiatore, un vagabondo affamato di conoscenza che si muove in treno dalle metropoli alla campagna, per poi tornare indietro”. La passerella rappresentava infatti i binari del treno e un mega-orologio (simbolo di partenze e arrivi) troneggiava dietro ai modelli. Questa collezione è all’insegna del layering, degli strati. L’uomo Varvatos indossa il biker di suede sotto il cappotto di lana o il cappotto-gilet sul cardigan, assicurando il tutto in vita con una cintura robusta. (E secondo me offre qualche spunto interessante anche per noi signore). Vediamo in dettaglio la ricetta del suo look. Cappotti morbidi ed eleganti, a ¾, doppiopetto o monopetto con revers a lancia dal taglio smilzo e leggeri. Cappotti edoardiani con gli orli a vivo. Doppi colli che creano effetti di stratificazione sulle giacche e sui cappotti. Cappotti senza maniche indossati come gilet. + Camicie che si indossano fuori dai pantaloni, allungate e con gli orli vivo + Maglieria: grossi cardigan-giacca, maglie fatte a mano di alpaca e lana, girocollo Fairisle di garza, giacche di maglia accoppiata, cardigan e maglioni con le maniche o il dorso di stoffa. + Pelle: giubbotti aderenti, cappotti di shearling spazzolato, cappotti di suede foderati di feltro = un look “sofisticatamente rustico”.
