Where to Eat the Best Ramen in Milan

FIVE-WITH-food-blueisinfashion

Five with. Today I start a new post-series of my blog. Every week there will be five tips recommended by a special guest, ranging from fashion to food and more. For this first time there’s no special guest (ha!) or better it is my boyfriend who helped me to write, to review and to eat these delicious dishes! Since today’s topic is: where to eat ramen in Milan. So here we go with my tips.

FUKUROU

Fukurou is at the top of my personal rank: I think it’s the best Japanese restaurant in Milan. Considerin only ramen (it offers more dishes), I guess it’s the only one at the same level of the Japanese original, even visually. Available in different types, like chicken, sizes are really huge. Gyoza are the best I’ve eaten in Italy until now. The restaurant is quite small and booking is recommended, especially for dinner (and for weekend!). Lunch sets consisting of ramen, gyoza anr chashu-don rice (plus a cup of genmai-cha tea) are available at worthwile prices. Dinner is more expensive. The staff is Japanese, as well as a good part of the customers. (I posted a complete review here).

ZAZA RAMEN

Form above substance. Classy interior design, young and trendy clientele, but the food didn’t convince me completely. Different ramen types are available, vegetarian and fish included, this is some sort of Italian-Japanese fusion cuisine. They taste good. But neglecting the authenticity, I wasn’t impressed by the quality: a few ingredients were cold, it seemed that they prepared the ramen too quickly without enough care. Gyoza were good but not excellent. You eat on large tables together with the other people. The serving sizes are not huge, the prices are.

RAMEN HOUSE

My expectations for this (Chinese) restaurant weren’t high, but I was pleasantly surprised. An excellent ramen, maybe different from the original one, but tasty and the servings are huge. Available in a lot of different types (vegetarian included), for lunch there are very affordable sets which consist of main dish, one starter, water, cover and dumplings (the Jiaozi are excellent) for just 11 euro.

CASA DEL RAMEN

A newcomer in town is this really small place, ran by a Chinese lady. It holds about ten people, the interior design is austere with an annoying blue light, but the food is good. Worth to mention that the noodles and the Chinese dumplings are handmade and cooked to order. Ramen is available in a few different recipes (duck included), and it reminded me more the Chinese food than the Japanese one, but wasn’t ramen born in China? This is the place for a quick and cheap meal (every ramen is 8 Euro).

NOZOMI

I often used to go to Nozomi before it changed location. Now that they are located in a much more bigger place I think that they lost something, even if I can’t exactly say what. Maybe the atmosphere, and this changed the perception of the food, that tasted not as good as before to me. We are however talking about good quality ramen and gyoza. Nozomi offers other Japanese dishes, and the experience reminds me of Japan more than many others restaurants in Milan. Part of the staff is Japanese. Not cheap but even not too expensive. Affordable sets are available for lunch.

CASA RAMEN

Small place with minimal interior design, you have to wait outside on the sidewalk as booking is not an available option. There is a more Milanese than Japanese atmosphere, starting from the queue that resembles more a camping than an ordered Japanese line. The menu consists of Ramen and a few starters. The quality of food is high, and it looks very good too: it reminded me of Japan in a convincing way, even if the chef was Italian. Serving size is big enough, cover and water included, mid prices.
